Nervous Patient
We pride ourselves in taking the time, care and understanding with nervous patients, to listen to their fears and phobias answering all questions, to alleviate any feelings of worry and stress, all within comfortable and friendly surroundings.
Is there anything that can help me with my fear of the dentist?
Yes. Some people are so frightened of the dentist that they will not go for dental treatment. They can overcome their fears with relaxation techniques or medication to help you relax (prescribed by your GP). Our dentists are sympathetic about these feelings, and you can ask our dentists about these ways to help.
How does relaxation work?
When we are faced with a challenge or something we’re afraid of, such as a visit to the dentist, our bodies produce substances, which raise our anxiety. However, we can train our bodies to work against this anxiety, by learning to relax. It’s not possible to be anxious and relaxed at the same time, so learning relaxation helps control our anxiety.
We take our time with our patients to understand the fear and try to help them cope with it. Our entire team understand that many people have a fear of the dentist and are trained for helping patients cope with this. We have found through previous patients that their fears have come from a previous past experience with another dentist- usually many years ago. Dentistry has changed a lot, especially for the newer generations, and we like to show our patients this. We understand that overcoming fears is a slow gradual process and at Dental Inspirations we are happy to share that slow process with our patients, helping them reach that day where they are happy and comfortable to come and see us - 1 appointment at a time - no pressure.
